Description Vitaminum E Medana is a medicinal product intended for use in the treatment of vitamin E deficiency, which is a factor necessary for the proper functioning of the body. Composition The active substance is all-rac-α-tocopheryl acetate. Each capsule contains 200 mg of all-rac-α-tocopheryl acetate. Excipients: gelatin, glycerol, ethyl parahydroxybenzoate (E214), cochineal (E120), purified water. Dosage Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any further questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Oral administration. The capsule should be swallowed and washed down with water. In cases of vitamin E deficiency, the dosage is determined by the physician.Adults: 1 or 2 capsules daily. Action The drugs active ingredient, vitamin E, is essential for the proper functioning of the body, protecting against the harmful effects of excessive amounts of strong oxidizing compounds and preventing red blood cell hemolysis. Protection against damage by oxygen radicals appears to be important for the development and functioning of the nervous and muscular systems. Vitamin E may also act as a cofactor in certain enzymatic systems (a component essential for certain metabolic processes). Indications Treatment of vitamin E deficiency caused by long-term poor nutrition and metabolic disorders. Supportive in atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease and its secondary prevention, and in all diseases whose etiology is related to oxidative stress. Contraindications When not to use Vitaminum E Medana: if you are allergic to vitamin E or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, if you have vitamin K deficiency (bleeding may occur). Side effects Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Doses exceeding 1200 mg per day may cause symptoms such as: headache, visual acuity disorders, nausea, diarrhea, rash, weakness, tiredness. Warnings and precautionsVitamin E Medana contains ethyl parahydroxybenzoate. This medicine may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed). Storage: Keep the medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not store above 25°C. Use of other medications Please tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, have recently taken or are planning to take, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Vitamin E may have an antagonistic effect on vitamin K, especially in people taking oral anticoagulants or estrogens (e.g. oral contraceptives). The use of other antioxidants (vitamin C, selenium, ubiquinone, sulfur-containing amino acids) may alleviate some symptoms of vitamin E deficiency. Concomitant use of iron compounds weakens the effect of vitamin E, so a break of several hours should be maintained between taking these drugs. Vitamin E increases the absorption, utilization and storage of vitamin A. Cholestyramine and colestipol (cholesterol-lowering drugs) reduce the absorption of vitamin E from the gastrointestinal tract. Orlistat (a drug that reduces fat absorption) and mineral oils may interfere with the absorption of vitamin E from the gastrointestinal tract. Taking the medicine with food and drink The medicine should be taken during or after a meal. Pregnancy and breastfeeding If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
