Dry eye, also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca, affects 15–17% of the population in Germany. It is a multifactorial disorder of the tear film and the ocular surface. An intact tear film is essential for healthy eyes, as it moistens the ocular surface, keeps it smooth and supple, flushes out foreign bodies, and protects against bacterial infections. Furthermore, it supplies the cornea and conjunctiva with oxygen and nutrients. If the quality or quantity of the tear film is disrupted, typical symptoms such as tired, burning, itchy, and gritty eyes, increased tear production, light sensitivity, conjunctival redness, or a feeling of dryness occur. Dry eye is often a chronic condition that should be treated early to prevent further damage to the ocular surface. For this purpose, medical lubricating solutions with hyaluronic acid – such as VISMED MULTI – have proven effective for more than 25 years. VISMED MULTI can be used for daily lubrication in all forms of dry eye. The eye drops are free of preservatives and therefore very well tolerated – even in cases of chronic conditions with damaged tear glands. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body that, as a component of tear fluid, helps retain moisture and transport nutrients. With their unique physical and chemical properties, biotechnologically produced hyaluronic acid solutions closely resemble natural tear fluid. They are therefore frequently used in ophthalmology to treat dry eye. The product VISMED MULTI contains 0.18% hyaluronic acid. Tilt your head back and hold the tip of the container over the eye to be treated. Pull down the lower eyelid with the index finger of one hand. Squeeze the container: One drop of VISMED MULTI will be released. Unless otherwise advised, instill 1 or 2 drops of VISMED MULTI into the eye as needed. Blinking will distribute the solution, forming a clear and durable layer of fluid on the surface of the eye. VISMED MULTI can also be used while wearing hard or soft contact lenses. Do not use simultaneously with medications or other products applied to the eye, as VISMED MULTI may alter their effects. Wait at least 15 minutes before applying other eye products.
