Glucosamine sulfate is a glucosamine derivative derived from the exoskeleton of crustaceans and stimulates the synthesis of glycosaminoglycan (GAG), which protects the sensitive urothelium and prevents bacteria from binding to urothelial cells. D-Mannose is a naturally occurring simple sugar that appears to be a safe and practical alternative for the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by E. coli and other related bacteria (Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Proteus, Klebsiella spp.). The lining of the bladder is composed of polysaccharide molecules. Finger-like projections on the surface of the E. coli cell adhere to these molecules, initiating an infection.
