DescriptionContained in this book is the history of the 134th New York Volunteer Infantry, a Civil War regiment raised in Schoharie and Schenectady Counties in upstate New York. Told largely in the words of the men who made up the regiment, this book tells their story from the regiments original organization in the summer of 1862, through their first deadly winter in Virginia, and on to Gettysburg, where the 134th suffered among the worst losses of any Union regiment present. Despite losing more than half its strength in that battle, the 134th went on to play a significant role in the relief of Chattanooga, the capture of Atlanta, Shermans March to the Sea, and the invasion of the Carolinas.About the AuthorAs a long time student of the Civil War, George Conklin has studied hundreds of letters, diary entries and other documents related to the 134th New York. He has also lectured frequently on the regiments history and its role at Gettysburg. He currently lives in New Jersey with his wife Margi.
