Keratin is the most abundant protein in hair and nails. As people age, hair becomes brittle and weak, reducing the concentration of keratin and the properties it provides: shine, strength, elasticity, flexibility and resistance. Nails, which protect the tips of the fingers and toes, are a type of modified skin, composed mainly of keratin.
