The preventive effect of egg yolk extract has been investigated in veterinary medicine. After administration of immunoglobulins from egg yolk, these bind to the surface of the gastrointestinal tract. Although some of the immunoglobulins may be destroyed by digestive enzymes, others reach the intestinal wall, blocking the attachment sites of viral particles. During the initial stages of infection, the protective effects of immunoglobulins are evident because the number of viral particles is small. This protective effect is much less pronounced in later stages of the disease, where there is already a massive colonization by viral particles. Fatty acids and starch Essential fatty acids stimulate the immune system by promoting the production of white blood cells that are involved in the bodys defense against infectious agents, since they stimulate the immune system by promoting the production of white blood cells.
