Ambroxol exerts its effect on several levels within the respiratory tract: First, ambroxol alters the composition of bronchial mucus, making it thinner. Simultaneously, it stimulates the production of surfactant – a substance that reduces surface tension in the alveoli, thus facilitating breathing. Furthermore, ambroxol activates the cilia in the airways, which transport the loosened mucus upwards from the bronchi. This multi-layered mechanism of action effectively loosens the phlegm, making it easier to cough up. The effects typically begin within 30 minutes of ingestion and last for several hours. Ambroxol also possesses mild anti-inflammatory properties, thus further supporting the healing process in respiratory illnesses. Instructions for use: Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over take 10 ml of MUCOSOLVAN® cough syrup 3 times daily (equivalent to 30 mg ambroxol per dose). If necessary, the dose can be increased to 10 ml 4 times daily during the first 2-3 days. Children aged 6-12 years take 5 ml 2-3 times daily (equivalent to 15 mg ambroxol per dose). The syrup should preferably be taken after meals with plenty of fluids. If symptoms do not improve or worsen after 4-5 days, a doctor should be consulted. Use without medical advice should not exceed 4-5 days.
