Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are a form of soluble carbohydrate found in many vegetables, such as chicory and onions. When taken orally, they are only partially absorbed, as most of them are used as a nutritional substrate for the growth of the natural bacterial flora of the gut (mainly including the genera Bifidobacteria and Lactobacillus). This leads to the prebiotic action of fructo-oligosaccharides, i.e. the growth of bacteria from the natural intestinal flora and the reduction of pathogenic bacteria and fungi. The prebiotic function of FOS leads to improved intestinal tone, regulation of intestinal peristaltic movements and improvement of gastrointestinal discomfort due to intestinal dysfunction. Nutritional studies have shown that a daily intake of 8g of FOS for a period of 2 weeks is accompanied by an increase in the number of bacteria in the natural intestinal flora (prebiotic effect). More specifically, it is accompanied by a tenfold increase in Bifidobacteria, a threefold increase in Lactobacilli, while also causing a simultaneous one-fold reduction in pathogenic Bacteroides microbes. It is suitable for all ages, including children and pregnant women, as well as people following a yeast-free diet and those on medication. It can be used for a long period of time. Use: Suitable for vegetarians. Dosage: (1 teaspoon = 5g) This product can be used in one of the following 2 ways: I) In small doses, to maintain overall gut health and as a prebiotic. II) In higher doses, to maintain intestinal functionality. Dissolve in hot drinks or mix with cereal. You can also take it straight from the spoon. Make sure to drink 2 liters of fluids per day. Storage: Store in a cool, dry environment and protect from light. Precautions & Side Effects:Allergies: None. Precautions: If any of the above dosage regimens cause increased gas production, it is recommended to reduce the dose administered and increase it gradually. Gas production is a product of the metabolism of the increased number of bacteria in the intestinal flora and therefore a sign that FOS is working. Gradually, and as the use of FOS continues, gas production will decrease as the newly produced beneficial bacteria absorb the gases. For doses above 10g (or 5g for children): it is recommended to take the daily dose in 2 separate doses (lunch-dinner), which helps to reduce the amount of gas produced. FOS may cause temporary bloating. This is a temporary symptom, which gradually disappears as the digestive system increases its activity. If bloating continues for more than 3 days, it is recommended to reduce the dose of FOS administered.
