Benefits/Characteristics Echinacea purpurea, also known as purple coneflower, is one of those herbs for which there are many references in the scientific literature regarding both its active ingredients and its mechanism of action. Echinacea is rich in important phytochemical active ingredients. The main ones are organic chemical compounds with a phenolic ring (organic phenol compounds) which include echinacoside (a derivative of caffeic acid), chicoric acid (in particularly high concentration in Echinacea purpurea compared to other species), chlorogenic acids and cynarin.
