How does Lactrase® work? The enzyme lactase contained in Lactrase® breaks down lactose, thus taking over the function of the bodys own lactase, which is lacking in cases of lactose intolerance. Lactrase® therefore allows for the symptom-free enjoyment of milk and dairy products. This also ensures the body receives the essential nutrients, minerals, and vitamins contained in milk. These include, in particular, protein, calcium, vitamin A, and vitamin D. Where does the lactase contained in Lactrase® come from? The lactase enzyme contained in Lactrase® is not of animal origin. It is produced using the microorganism Aspergillus oryzae, which has been used for decades in the production of food enzymes. How is Lactrase® used? You should determine the appropriate amount of Lactrase® for you individually. This depends primarily on your bodys own lactase production and the amount of lactose in the meal. Generally, 3300 FCC units of lactase (one Lactrase® capsule) allow you to consume approximately 5 g of lactose. The capsules should be taken immediately before or with lactose-containing foods or drinks. Alternatively, you can open the capsules and add the contents to foods or drinks up to 50°C. This is particularly suitable when used by children. The capsules are easy to open. Simply squeeze the capsule gently and simultaneously pull the two halves apart.
