What properties does alpha-lipoic acid have? Alpha-lipoic acid (R-ALA, alpha-lipoic acid ) is an organic chemical compound that occurs naturally in human and animal bodies. It is a substance soluble in both water and fat, which allows it to easily penetrate cell membranes and act in different environments of organisms. Alpha-lipoic acid participates in metabolic processes. This compound can be synthesized by the body, but it can also be taken in the form of dietary supplements. Each capsule of the Kenay® brand formula contains 300 mg of sodium R-alpha lipoic acid (R-ALA Bio- Enhanced® Na-RALA), equivalent to 240 mg of R-lipoic acid.
