Taurine and carnitine complex with cardioprotective role, for dogs and catsComposition per tablet: L-Carnitine – 500 mg Taurine – 500 mg Indications: L-Carnitine reduces oxidative stress which in the long term leads to cardiovascular problems, diabetes and chronic inflammation. In the body, L-carnitine is involved in fat metabolism. Striated muscles and cardiac muscle use long-chain fatty acids for energy production, and for fatty acids to reach the cell where they will be metabolized, L-Carnitine is needed, which facilitates the transport of fatty acids through membranes. It is successfully used as an adjunctive treatment in congestive heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy and in the prevention of myocardial infarction in dogs, and in feline hepatic lipidosis. It has protective effects in toxic cardiomyopathy, especially that induced by doxorubicin. Taurine is an important component of bile acids that help absorb fats and soluble vitamins into the blood and support neuronal development. Taurine regulates heart rhythm, mediates intracellular calcium transport from and to cells, therefore taurine is recommended for heart conditions: arrhythmia, tachycardia, palpitations, heart failure, hypertension, diabetes (retinal degradation) and biliary disorders. In dogs with dilated cardiomyopathy, it provided obvious clinical improvements when administered at a dose of 500 mg of taurine every 12 hours. Cats cannot synthesize this amino acid in sufficient quantities, so a supplemental intake is necessary.
