Its formulation has been specifically designed to resemble the physiological hyaluronic acid present in normal gingival mucosa. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance, a physiological constituent of the connective tissue (in particular of the gingival mucosa) where it has an anti-edematous and tissue repairing action, thanks to its macroaggregating effect. This explains its anti-inflammatory properties. Under normal conditions, high molecular weight hyaluronic acid is distributed selectively and specifically and is particularly concentrated in the superficial layers of the gingival epithelium, where it contributes to the barrier function and tensile strength of the alveolo-dental ligament. In periodontal diseases (inflammatory conditions, gum pockets, wounds), the tissue requirement increases significantly (up to approximately 200% compared to baseline values), demonstrating its specific role in regulating cell renewal and optimizing local regeneration capacity. The deficiency of hyaluronic acid that occurs in these conditions prevents the tissues from: restore water balance (with consequent increase in edema and pain), activate the migration of fibrocytes responsible for tissue repair (healing is therefore delayed). Consequently, this deficit is itself responsible for the persistence of the inflammatory state. Studies conducted in humans show a similarity in the availability of exogenous and endogenous hyaluronic acids, which allows us to put an end to this situation. Hyalugel, thanks to maximum adhesion, allows the hyaluronic acid to be kept in situ (which would otherwise be eliminated by permanent salivary drainage). HYALUGEL has no negative effects and can be used by children (from 30 months for the Spray and Gel forms and from 6 years for the Bath form), pregnant women and the elderly. Thanks to the properties of xylitol, a natural non-cariogenic sweetener which does not induce significant changes in blood sugar levels, the product is also suitable for diabetics. It has no pharmacological interactions, therefore it can be used safely even during specific therapies, in particular antibiotics.
