ACTION AND MECHANISM A glucocorticoid with anti-inflammatory and antipruritic properties. Both actions are linked to the ability of glucocorticoids to reduce the synthesis and release of inflammatory mediators, such as certain interleukins, leukotrienes, and TNF. CONTRAINDICATIONS Contraindicated in [ALLERGY TO CORTICOSTEROIDS] or to any of the components of the formula, as well as in [RECTAL BLEEDING], bacterial, viral or fungal infections in the area to be treated. DOPING Hydrocortisone administered orally, rectally, intravenously, or intramuscularly is considered prohibited during competition. All glucocorticoids are considered specified substances and, therefore, a violation of the rule involving this substance may result in a reduced sanction as long as the athlete can demonstrate that the use of the specified substance in question was not intended to enhance their athletic performance. PREGNANCY Safety during pregnancy has not been established. As a general rule, rectal corticosteroids should not be used for prolonged periods or over large areas in women who are or may be pregnant due to the possibility of systemic absorption of the preparation. The use of hydrocortisone should be reserved only for those cases in which the potential benefit justifies the possible risks to the fetus. INDICATIONS - Local relief of pain, [ANAL ITCHING], burning and inflammation associated with [HEMORRHOIDS] in adults. LACTATION It is unknown whether topical corticosteroids are excreted in breast milk, so caution is advised if they must be used during breastfeeding. GUIDELINES FOR PROPER ADMINISTRATION It is recommended to apply after bowel movements and personal hygiene. Before application, the affected area should be cleaned with warm water and soap. For intrarectal application: Insert the cannula into the rectum, pressing on the tube to deposit an amount equivalent to approximately one or two centimeters. Slowly withdraw the cannula as the contents are emptied. It is also advisable to apply a small amount to the outside of the anal opening and the folds of the anal margins. POSOLOGY * 10 mg/g: - Adults and children over 12 years: Apply 1-2 times a day, using approximately 2 cm of product, directly to the anorectal area for external hemorrhoids and via the cannula for internal hemorrhoids. It is recommended to apply the product in the morning and at night, preferably after bowel movements and personal hygiene. PRECAUTIONS Continuous use should not generally exceed the recommended time period. In large areas, and if used for prolonged periods or with occlusive dressings or diapers, there is a risk of systemic effects due to the increased absorption, especially when used in children. Chronic administration in children may interfere with their growth and development; therefore, extreme caution is recommended in these cases. Any contact with the eyes or areas near them, as well as mucous membranes, should be avoided. If irritation occurs in the application area, use should be discontinued and, if necessary, appropriate treatment should be initiated. If an associated dermatological infection is present, it is advisable to incorporate specific complementary treatment. ADVERSE REACTIONS In isolated cases, local adverse reactions such as stinging, irritation or itching may occur, mainly attributed to hypersensitivity (generally due to application to large areas or prolonged treatments). At the recommended doses and for a limited period of time, topical use is rarely associated with the appearance of systemic adverse effects. - Hypersensitivity: (<0.1%): allergic reaction - Dermatological: (<0.1%): [ERYTHEMA], [EXANTHEMATOUS ERUPTIONS], local reactions at the application site, skin atrophy, skin fragility, folliculitis, acne, telangiectasias, reddish stretch marks on the skin, hypertrichosis, hyperpigmentation of the skin. - Endocrine: (<0.01%): Cushings syndrome, hyperglycemia, glucosuria, hypothalamic-pituitary disorders - General: (<0.01%): tachyphylaxis and rebound phenomenon. COMPOSITION HYDROCORTISONE (RECTAL): 10 MILLIGRAMS - ACETATE
