The intestinal microbiome refers to the entirety of all microorganisms colonizing the gut. A balanced ratio of gut bacteria is essential for human health. Numerous studies have shown that an imbalance in the gut microbiome is associated with various diseases, including metabolic syndrome, diabetes, inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, calcium oxalate kidney stones, cardiovascular diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, and neurological disorders. This so-called next-generation sequencing method for detecting dysbiosis has so far only been used in research. It involves the molecular genetic analysis of the entire bacterial intestinal microbiome and has revolutionized diagnostics, as conventional stool analysis could previously only identify a limited range of the gut bacteria present. Furthermore, the effects of the individual, highly complex microbiota on colonization resistance, digestive processes, absorption of nutrients and vitamins, as well as on immunity, can be assessed more precisely. The analysis even detects anaerobic bacteria that cannot be cultured. The standard for microbiological stool diagnostics in the 20th century was primarily based on culturing on nutrient media and subsequent enzymatic differentiation. However, very few anaerobic bacteria (approximately 99% of intestinal bacteria) grow using these culture methods. In recent years, there has been a rapid development in testing methods. In modern laboratories, the identification of bacteria from cultures on nutrient media is now largely carried out using mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF = Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization-Time-of-Flight) or directly from the submitted material using molecular biological methods (PCR = Polymerase Chain Reaction). A disadvantage, however, is that PCR is a highly selective and expensive technology. The microbiome data and their expertise can be updated and expanded at regular intervals in the future, so that new findings are reflected in the report. The microbiome stool test is possible from the age of 3 years. The molecular genetic examination includes the Analysis of the diversity of the intestinal microbiome Statement about bacterial dysbiosis Enterotype detection Frequency distribution of the most important bacterial strains Determination of the Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio Assessment of the mucosa-protective flora Analysis of risk factors for dysbiosis-associated diseasesThe test kit includes: 1 Instructions for sample collection 1 Instructions for querying test results 1 Sample accompanying slip 1 Warranty Certificate 1 sample container including label in shipping container 1 microbiome sample tube with label in shipping container 1 stool catcher 1 shipping container 1 shipping bagHow does the ordering process work? After you place your order, we will send you the requested test kit along with detailed instructions. You place the sample in the designated container, send it in the pre-addressed envelope to our partner laboratory, GANZIMMUN Diagnostics GmbH, and receive your results, including an evaluation of your profile, by mail. Please note that the analysis of this test can take up to 14 business days. Please note that reimbursement by private health insurance is not always guaranteed for this test. Therefore, please check with your health insurance provider to see if the costs are covered.
