FRONTPRO® is a veterinary medicinal product for the treatment of flea and tick infestations in dogs, in the form of chewable tablets with a beef flavor and palatable to most dogs. FRONTPRO® is available in presentations for dogs weighing between 2 and 50 kg, as follows: FRONTPRO® 11 mg chewable tablets for dogs 2–4 kg FRONTPRO® 28 mg chewable tablets for dogs >4–10 kg FRONTPRO® 68 mg chewable tablets for dogs >10–25 kg FRONTPRO® 136 mg chewable tablets for dogs >25–50 kg FRONTPRO® is available without a prescription. The active substance of FRONTPRO® is Afoxolaner. Afoxolaner is an insecticide and acaricide belonging to the isoxazolines family and is active against adult fleas and some tick species such as Dermacentor reticulatus and D. variabilis, Ixodes ricinus, I. hexagonus and I. scapularis, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Hyalomma marginatum, Amblyomma americanum and Haemaphysalis longicornis. FRONTPRO® kills fleas in 8 hours and ticks in 48 hours. FRONTPRO® kills fleas before they lay eggs and thus prevents contamination of rooms. Indications for use: Treatment of flea infestations in dogs (Ctenocephalides felis and C. canis). One treatment has an immediate and continuous flea killing effect for 5 weeks. Treatment of tick infestations in dogs (Dermacentor reticulatus, Ixodes ricinus, Ixodes hexagonus, Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Hyalomma marginatum). One treatment has an immediate and continuous tick-killing effect for one month. Fleas and ticks must be attached to the host and begin the feeding process to be exposed to the active substance. Parasites can transmit diseases to dogs by being carriers and vectors of pathogens. By killing fleas and ticks, this veterinary medicinal product reduces the risk of transmission of canine babesiosis and dipylidium infection: - Reducing the risk of infection with Dipylidium caninum through transmission by Ctenocephalides felis for 30 days. - Reducing the risk of infection with Babesia canis canis through transmission by Dermacentor reticulatus, for 28 days. The effect is indirect due to the activity of the veterinary medicinal product against fleas and ticks. Contraindications: Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients. Special precautions for safe use in the target species: In the absence of available data, use only according to the benefit-risk assessment carried out by the responsible veterinarian before treatment of puppies less than 8 weeks of age and/or dogs weighing less than 2 kg. Can be used in females during pregnancy or lactation. Can be used in breeding females. Adverse events: Very rare (< 1 animal/10,000 animals treated, including isolated reports): Neurological symptoms: seizures1, ataxia1 (lack of coordination) and muscle tremor1. Skin symptoms1 : Pruritus (itching). Systemic disorders1: lethargy (decreased activity), anorexia (lack of appetite). Digestive tract disorders 2: vomiting 1, diarrhea 1. 1 Most reported adverse events resolved spontaneously and were short-lived. 2 Usually moderate Routes and methods of administration: Oral administration. Dosage: To ensure correct dosage, body weight should be determined as accurately as possible. The product should be administered at a dose of 2.7–7 mg/kg body weight. The chewable tablets should not be divided. To ensure optimal control of flea and tick infestations, the product should be administered at monthly intervals throughout the periods of flea and/or tick activity. The need for or frequency of repeat treatment(s) should take into account the local epidemiological situation and the animals lifestyle.
