It acts by inhibiting the GABA complex, binding chloride channels and blocking the pre- and postsynaptic transfer of chloride ions across the membrane. This causes uncontrolled activity of the central nervous system and death of the insect. Fipronil has insecticidal and acaricidal action against fleas (Ctenocephalides spp.), ticks (Rhipicephalus spp., Dermacentor spp. and Ixodes spp.) including Ixodes ricinus, of epizootic importance, being the transmission agent of Lyme disease, and lice (Trichodectes canis) in dogs. FIPREX 75 SPOT ON FOR DOGS is effective in flea infestations for approximately 2 months and in tick infestations for approximately 1 month, depending on environmental changes.
