VetPlus Epilease 1000 mg 60 Capsules – nutraceutical supplement used for the long-term treatment of epilepsy. In recent years, the use of potassium bromide for the treatment of epilepsy has gained the approval of veterinarians. It is particularly beneficial for dogs that show a poor response to phenobarbitone, dogs with liver disease, or liver toxicity as a result of phenobarbitone use. Composition: Magnesium stearate, Microcrystalline cellulose. Additives: Potassium bromide 1000 mg/kg. Directions The capsule can be taken as is or opened and its contents mixed with food. Do not take on an empty stomach. To be administered with regular mealsLoading dose administration protocol A total dose of 120mg/kg/day + maintenance dose is administered, administered in four divided doses per day. The stable dose at blood level will be reached after 5 days of administration. Continue with the maintenance dose starting on day 6. Side effects such as behavioral changes and/or ataxia may be observed. Medical supervision is recommended during the administration of the loading dose to avoid overdose and the occurrence of toxicity. Maintenance dose: Administered with phenobarbital 25 -40mg/kg/day Administered as a single therapeutic agent 50 -80mg/kg/day Stable serum levels are achieved after 4 months of administration. After one month of administration the percentage of stability is 60% which allows dose adjustment. The gradual reduction of phenobarbital can be done after two months of continuous therapy with Epilease. Usually a single daily administration is recommended. If Gastrointestinal disorders occur (e.g. vomiting) the dose will be administered in two divided doses. Warning: For veterinary use only. Storage: 15˚C - 25˚C. Keep out of direct sunlight.
