Dogs The effect of bathing on the duration of the products effectiveness against fleas was studied. Weekly immersion of dogs in water after treatment had no effect on the duration of efficacy. Shampooing dogs with an emollient shampoo 48 hours before treatment had no effect on the duration of efficacy. Weekly shampooing of dogs with an emollient shampoo may reduce the duration of efficacy by 3 weeks against adult fleas and by 6 weeks against immature fleas. Weekly bathing with chlorhexidine shampoos may reduce the efficacy against adult fleas by 3 weeks. Fipronil and (S)-methoprene may have adverse effects on aquatic organisms. Dogs should not be allowed to swim in watercourses for 2 days after treatment.
