St. Johns wort, also known as hypericum, is a well-known and widely used plant in Europe. One of its most distinctive characteristics is its pine-like scent, and when rubbed, it leaves a reddish stain on the hand. As tradition dictates, which gave it its name, the optimal time for harvesting is St. Johns Day (June 24th), when it flowers and the active ingredients are found in the blossoms.
