Factors such as inadequate oral hygiene, certain diseases, smoking, stress or poor diets can affect the protective balance in the oral cavity, and pathogenic bacteria can affect the health of the gums, can contribute to the appearance of bacterial plaque and bad breath. Gingivitis, caries and halena (bad breath) are the most well-known oral health problems. Gingivitis is the inflammation of the gums in response to pathogenic bacterial biofilm (what is known as dental plaque).
