Energy GUM Bar+Caffeine is a high-quality gelled bar with a premium composition that provides all the necessary ingredients to improve performance in training and competitions. This is the adaptation of our Energy Gel + Caffeine to the gummy bar format, 30 g with a magnificent texture, easy to chew and will not be difficult to swallow, thus avoiding gastrointestinal problems. It contains two sources of carbohydrates, Dextrose (in the form of glucose syrup) and Sucrose, which, however, provides us with 3 types of carbohydrates, as Sucrose is a source of Glucose and Fructose. These are necessary because carbohydrate intake during exercise has been shown to improve performance (Cermak, NM et al., SM. 2013; Pochmuller, M. et al., JISSN. 2016). In addition, recent research has shown that high carbohydrate intake during exercise, especially in the case of prolonged exercise (>2.5 hours), improves neuromuscular function (Urdampilleta, A et al. Nutrients. 2020) and also enhances post-exercise recovery, both in terms of muscle damage and energy expenditure, by shortening glycogen resynthesis times (Viribay, A. et al. Nutrients. 2020). But, in addition to the combination of carbohydrates, our extraordinary formula has more added value, as we have also incorporated: Minerals: Better known as electrolytes or salts, especially sodium (Na), which is the one we lose the most through sweat and is essential for maintaining hydration during physical activity (each bar provides approximately 112 mg) (NDA Panel. EFSA Journal. 2011). They also provide potassium (K) and magnesium (Mg), the loss of which may be implicated in muscle cramps; these have been added in the form of highly bioavailable salts such as magnesium citrate. Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs): Intake of these amino acids with carbohydrates during exercise has been shown to reduce markers of muscle damage (Valentine, RJ et al., IJSNEM. 2008). Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) are also highly oxidized by the muscles, meaning they are used as an energy source, reducing the use of glycogen in favor of fat. In addition, the intake of these amino acids during exercise reduces central fatigue syndrome (CFS), that is, reduces the production of serotonin (a neurotransmitter linked to symptoms of fatigue and mood) (Kerksick, CM et al., JISSN. 2018). Arginine: This amino acid, in addition to being a precursor to nitric oxide (NO), reduces lactate concentration and improves aerobic capacity. Additionally, as a glucogenic amino acid, it can be used by muscles as an additional source of energy. Taurine: Among other effects, it has antioxidant, metabolic, and ergogenic properties (Galloway, SDR et al., JAP. 2008). Its administration, along with other ingredients, has been shown to improve muscular endurance during exercise (Hoffman, JR et al., JCSR. 2008). It stabilizes cell membranes, helping potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium to pass through them (Bouckenooghe, T. et al., CNMC. 2006). Caffeine and Guarana: We added caffeine (in pure form and in the form of Guarana), the most effective ingredient for directly improving performance, both endurance and strength (Grgic, J. et al., BJSM. 2019). In addition to activating the Central Nervous System (CNS), it delays fatigue and optimizes the use of cellular fuels (glycogen and fat). But most importantly, it improves muscle contraction (Lopes, JM et al., JAP. 1983), hence its effectiveness especially when fatigue begins.
