The active ingredient DEET is highly effective against mosquito and tick bites. On average, the user is protected for 10 hours against bites from common mosquitoes, Anopheles mosquitoes, and Aedes mosquitoes, and for about 5 hours against tick bites. However, protection against certain aggressive tropical tick species may be shorter. Application: Apply the insect repellent evenly. To protect facial skin, apply a small amount of the repellent to your face with your fingers. Then wash your hands and apply the repellent to the backs of your hands. To be able to eat and drink without hindrance, fingers should remain free of insect repellent. Apply insect repellent to your skin ten minutes before sun exposure during the day. If you are also using sunscreen, apply the sunscreen 30 minutes before sun exposure. Then apply the insect repellent 20 minutes later (i.e., 10 minutes before sun exposure). When the protection is no longer needed, or if side effects occur, thoroughly wash the treated skin areas with soap and water.
