Product features: Aquacel Ag+ wound dressings Aquacel Ag+ wound dressings are antimicrobial and effective for use on infected wounds. They combine the proven Hydrofiber technology with the more than silver technology – a unique silver ion-containing formula that combats biofilm. Intended purpose: Aquacel Ag+ Extra wound dressings are designed for use as a primary dressing. They are intended for use under the guidance of a healthcare professional on wounds at risk of infection or wounds showing signs of infection or suspected biofilm formation, and in accordance with the indications. Indications: Aquacel Ag+ Extra is suitable for the treatment of acute and chronic, moderately to heavily exuding wounds that have biofilm, are infected or at risk of infection, especially for: Diabetic foot ulcers Venous leg ulcer arterial leg ulcer Ulcus cruris mixtum Pressure ulcers Surgical wounds Traumatic wound Malignant wounds Second-degree burns The Aquacel Ag+ tamponade can also be used for wound cavities and deep wounds, including undermined wounds, fistulas and wound pockets. Exudate volume: Moderate to high. Contraindications: Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings should not be used on individuals who are sensitive or allergic to silver, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) or benzethonium chloride (BeCl). Precautions and observations: This dressing is not intended for use as a surgical sponge. Sterility is only guaranteed if the bag remains undamaged and unopened before use. Do not use the product if the packaging is damaged or opened before use. In this case, dispose of the product in accordance with local regulations. Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings are disposable items and must not be reused. Reuse can result in an increased risk of infection, cross-contamination, and delayed healing. These dressings should not be used with any other wound care products without first consulting a medical professional. Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings are not compatible with petroleum-based products. Due to the sterilization process, a faint/slight odor may occur when opening the primary packaging. During the bodys normal healing process, dead tissue is removed from the wound (autolytic debridement), which may make the wound appear larger at first. Newly formed blood vessels may occasionally produce bloody wound fluid after the dressing is removed. Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings are, according to their design, suitable for MRI. Skin discoloration has been observed after long-term use of silver-containing products, however this is often temporary and disappears after the silver-containing dressing is removed. Doctors/medical professionals should be aware that there is very limited data available on the long-term and repeated use of silver-containing products, especially in children and newborns. If you notice any irritation (redness, inflammation), maceration (softening of the skin with white discoloration), hypergranulation (excessive tissue growth), or signs of infection (increasing pain, bleeding, warmth/redness of the surrounding tissue, wound exudate), or a change in the color and/or odor of the wound when changing the dressing, please consult a medical professional. After use, this product may pose a biohazard. It must be handled and disposed of in accordance with generally accepted medical practice and applicable local, state, and federal laws. If a serious incident occurs during or as a result of the use of this product, please report it to the manufacturer and the competent authority in the Member State where the user and/or patient is located. Related products and therapies: Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings can be used alone or in conjunction with other wound care products such as primary dressings, secondary dressings, fixation dressings, compression therapy products, or topical drug treatments. Additional products and therapies should be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Contact and duration of application: Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings can be worn for up to 7 days. If clinically indicated, the dressing may need to be changed sooner. For second-degree burns, the dressing can remain on the wound for up to 14 days. The need for continued use of Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings should be reassessed after 14 days, and alternative wound care should be considered if necessary. Instructions for use: Before applying the wound dressing, clean the wound with a suitable wound cleanser. The Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressing should overlap the skin around the wound by at least 1 cm. When using Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings in deep wounds, only fill the wound to 80%, as Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings expand upon contact with wound fluid and fill the wound space. A secondary dressing is required to keep Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings on the wound, for example: A protective dressing that retains moisture (e.g. DuoDERM Extra thin) for slightly to moderately exuding wounds. A secondary dressing such as Aquacel Foam, Aquacel Foam Pro or ConvaMax for moderately to heavily exuding wounds. For dry wounds, see the section on dry wounds below. Please refer to the package insert of the respective dressing for complete instructions for use. All wounds should be examined regularly. Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings should be changed when clinically indicated (e.g., leakage, heavy bleeding, increasing pain) or after a maximum of seven days. For partial burns (second degree): Before applying the dressing, clean the wound area with a suitable wound cleanser. The Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressing should overlap the skin around the burn wound and any adjacent Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings by at least 5 cm. Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings should be covered with a sterile absorbent pad and secured with an adhesive bandage or fixation bandage. Remove the top dressing regularly and check the Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings remaining on the burn wound. For this indication, the adhesion of Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings to the wound bed is a desirable property. As the burn wound re-epithelializes, the Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings loosen or can be easily removed. For second-degree burns, Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings can remain on the wound for up to 14 days or as clinically indicated. If the burn is infected, it may be necessary to examine the wound regularly. On dry wounds: Moisten Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings with sterile saline solution before applying them to the wound. The gelling properties of Aquacel Ag+ Extra dressings help maintain a moist wound and reduce the risk of maceration. Cover the dressing with a moisture-retaining dressing (e.g., DuoDERM Extra thin) to prevent the dressing from drying out and subsequently sticking to the wound. If the dressing is dry when removed, it must be moistened with sterile saline solution before removal to reduce the risk of trauma. Store at room temperature (10°C - 25°C/50°F - 77°F). Keep in a dry place. Source: www.convatec.com As of January 2024
