Cold therapy: Lay the compress flat, without the cover, and chill it in the refrigerator at 4°C for at least 1 hour, or until the desired temperature is reached. Heat therapy: Microwave heating : Wrap the gel compress stored at room temperature in a damp, clean cloth or damp paper towel and microwave for approximately 10 seconds at a medium power of 700 W, or according to the table. If the temperature of the compress is not satisfactory, turn the compress 180°C (350°F) and heat in 5-second intervals until a comfortable temperature is achieved. Knead the compress between heating cycles to even out the temperature across its entire surface. Then, wipe the compress dry, cover it, and apply it to the painful area. Heating in hot water : Bring enough water to a boil to cover the compress. Soak the compress in water for about 4-8 minutes. The water temperature should be 90-95 degrees C.
